Be careful to walk in holiness because God is holy.

Be Holy

As believers, we need to understand that God is holy, righteous and just. He hates sins and every kind of evil. In his Kingdom, which we call the Third Heaven, there is no sin and no evil for they cannot exist in his presence.

The angels who serve him are holy and those who died and went to Heaven were made holy. Without holiness, no one can come near to God. This includes both angels and men.

When Satan and a third of the angels rebelled against God, they were banished from the Third Heaven. They had become sinful and unholy. They were not allowed to enter the Kingdom of God forever and had to occupy the lower heavens.

Likewise, Adam and Eve were also banished from God’s presence when they sinned in the garden of Eden. Both of them and their descendants could no longer come near to God and see him face-to-face.

God however loves mankind. He longs for that intimate fellowship with men that was lost in the garden of Eden. But for that to happen, sinful men must be made holy again. This however requires that their sins must first be forgiven and taken away.

So he sent Jesus Christ, his only Son, to the world to die as a man to atone for their sins. God also sent his Spirit (Holy Spirit) into the heart of believers to lead them in the way of holiness and righteousness.

This therefore is how God makes sinful men holy again. First, by making them holy through Jesus’ blood by faith. Then by enabling and calling them to live a holy life.

As believers, God has already made us holy through Jesus Christ. Now it is our turn to keep ourselves that way!

The Bible reveals further that our bodies are now the Temple of the Holy Spirit. That means God’s holy presence is now inside us. We are therefore not to defile ourselves with what is sinful. We are to forsake our sins and keep ourselves holy.

If we do sin, let us be quick to repent and turn away from evil. God is just and faithful to forgive us and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. But if anyone will not repent and continue to sin wilfully, the Bible warns that he will be judged and burned with fire in the end.

Therefore let us remember that without holiness, no one will see God. We must not forget why angels and men were banished from God’s presence in the first place. But as obedient children, let us not conform to evil desires but to be holy in all we do. For God said: “Be holy, because I am holy.”

Prayer

Abba Father, thank you for making me holy through Jesus Christ. Now, help me to remember that without holiness, I will not see you. May you enable me to live a holy life and to encourage others to do likewise. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen
